The Morrissette Trail

The Morrissette Trail is a journey between the lowest and highest point in Mont Vernon, NH. With 700′ of elevation gain, you travel from 315′ (Zahn Point) to 1015′ (Wilkins Point) at the top of Storey Hill. It was created in dedication to those fighting all forms of cancer.  The lowest and highest point names are dedicated to the Zahn and Wilkins family for offering to help this cause.  These points are on their private property.

Matt Morrissette thought of creating this trail on September 2nd, 2011 and traveled the approx. 5.1 miles on The Morrissette Trail for the first time on Monday, October 17, 2011 at 5:52pm (Zahn to Wilkins Point) in 52 minutes. Using USGS maps, Google maps, Mont Vernon maps, 1 compass and three GPS tools Matt located and verified each point as having the following coordinates: Zahn Point: (42.8661, -71.6718) and Wilkins Point: (42.9286, -71.69228).

Matt has been a resident of Mont Vernon since August, 1999 and has dedicated many hours to special things within Mont Vernon like deaconship at the Mont Vernon Congregational Church, Coach of girls youth volleyball, building the Cates cross, building & dedicating the town’s recycling station, town wide clean-up and leading cub scouts.  Matt is an avid hiker, mountaineer and Highpointer who also summited Mount Whitney (USA’s tallest peak)(14,505′) with another Mont Vernon resident on June 15, 2011.

Here’s how to Hike “The Morrissette Trail”:
